The GCHGS Index

The GCHGS is proud to host a complete index of their holdings online. We currently have around 600,000 names in our database. Each record is catalogued by event and source.

We are currently working on copying and indexing all funeral home records in the County, as well as the 100 years of original newspapers in our holdings (The Alma Record & St. Louis Leader). This index is a work in progress, with new materials being added weekly. To access the index, please follow this link.

GCHGS Membership Request

As members of the Society, you will recieve a combined society newsletter and genealogy newsletter every 2 months. These newsletters will have information on society porgrams, museum events, minutes from the board & regular meetings. Also included will be genealogical information such as historical articles on people and places of Gratiot County, genealogy library happenings, queries, etc. If you have more than one address for summer and winter, please include this information in your membership request. We will no longer be forwarding the returned mailings.

Gratiot County Pioneer Certificate Questionaire

The Genealogical group is offering certificates suitable for framing to anyone who send documentation to prove their ancestors lived in the county 100 years ago. Proof of being a descendant of the pioneer is necessary (birth certificates, printed articles, etc.). Qualifying families will be charged $5 for each certificate; add $1 for postage. Please don't send original records!
